Tom is the son and grandson of small business owners and an advocate for small business.

Sunrise Long Island Endorses Tom Murray for Islip Town Supervisor

TOWN OF ISLIP, August 7th, 2019: Over the past two years, Sunrise Movement has skyrocketed into the public discourse. Led by youth climate activists, Sunrise Movement has highlighted the corrupting influence of fossil fuel industry money in politics and pushed the Green New Deal resolution onto the agenda.

Sunrise Long Island is one of hundreds of Sunrise hubs that have sprouted since then. As young people, we believe that to protect our future we must change what is possible. That is why we are endorsing a candidate who will turn the tide of politics in the Town of Islip.

Campaign Kickoff a Success

The Islip Town Democratic Committee hosted the official campaign kickoff on April 17th at The Drift Inn in East Islip. The sold out event was hosted by the town committee with special guest speaker, Suffolk County Democratic Committee Chairman Rich Schaffer along with special guests Senator Monica Martinez and Legislator Sam Gonzalez.

Bayport, NY – Bayport resident,Democrat Thomas Murray will challenge incumbent Republican Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter in the 2019 November election. Murray, 31, an environmental attorney and community activist, will campaign on a platform demanding zoning policies that consider large and mid-sized construction projects as a whole to better understand how multiple projects will impact traffic, school districts, the environment and the historic character of hamlet communities in the town.
